Newcastle is my hometown and I am passionate about the wellbeing and happiness of all pets in the community.

Happy Tails uses a reward-based, force-free, and fear-free approach and am an advocate for having compassion, clear communication, and patience in all interactions with animals.

Using positive reinforcement, I aim to provide animals with as much free choice as possible in any given situation. This greatly increases the animal's confidence, happiness, and problem-solving skills as well as improves the human-to-animal relationship.

Compassion
Animal care comes from a place of love, and with love, comes compassion and empathy. Quality pet care is about seeing your pet as a unique individual and understanding their experience as best as possible.
Patience
Patience is essential to good animal care or training. It's okay for things to take time and take repetition - that's normal! Being patient and not rushing things with your pet is a great foundation for building trust and connection.
Communication
It's important to remember that as humans, we're a completely different species to our pets! Good communication is all about reading their body language and understanding what our own body language is communicating back to them. Communication is also about discovering the unique learning style and preferences of your pet.
Kindness to animals is the path to understanding and connection.
My Background
My name is Lucy Johnson and I am the sole owner of Happy Tails.
I simply have never been able to imagine my life without animals. The connection and learning they inspire is incomparable to anything else.

I am fully certified in Provide Basic Animal First Aid through the RSPCA NSW.
I have studied through the Victoria Stilwell Academy, Amelia Steele (VSA-PDT), and TAFE NSW to learn the best animal care practices and knowledge available.

Location
Happy Tails provides pet services to the Newcastle, NSW area.
There is a travel surcharge of $1/km per day for clients further than 8km away from the Newcastle CBD.
