Dog Walking

At Happy Tails, I provide reward-based dog walking services that focus equally on your dog's safety and their happiness. To help build a relationship with your dog, I encourage lots of play and engagement ensuring your dog is getting the most out of our walks.

I understand that your dog is a member of your family, and I take the responsibility of caring for them very seriously. I am passionate about getting to know all the dogs I walk and giving them the best time possible when out.

I look forward to meeting you and your dog soon!

What does a Happy Tails walk involve?

Will my dog be on-leash or off-leash?

I offer both on-leash and off-leash walks, however all clients start on a on-leash on a long-line until I am confident in their recall to me. On a long-line, your dog will have 8m of freedom to explore the environment as they wish. Long line walks offer safety as dogs maintain contact with me when they have limited recall, are non-social to others, on on-leash only trails, and in busy public areas.

How many dogs do you walk at a time?

To ensure your dogs get the one-on-one attention they deserve, I only walk dogs from one household at a time. This can also reduce any potential conflict from occurring between dogs who don't know each other. If your dog is social and happy to meet others, they are more than welcome to play if we meet other social dogs on our walks.

What do you do if my dog does something wrong?

Happy Tails does not condone or support using punishment or force as 'corrections' when caring for any animal. If your dog does something 'wrong', I will assess what led up to that behaviour occurring and adjust our walk as needed to reduce the likelihood of it occurring again. Both management and training practices are utilised to best set up your dog for success on our walks. Walks are entirely reward-based and I will reinforce your dog for the behaviours that keep us safe and happy. Force or pressure would only ever be used in emergency situations where safety is at risk.

My dog is reactive or aggressive, can I still book dog walks?

Yes, absolutely! All dogs, reactive or not, deserve to explore and enrich their world through walks. There are numerous measures we can include in our walks to ensure the safety of both your dog and others. With all client dogs, I play games that focus on emotional regulation skills and this can be especially beneficial for reactive dogs too. I do have experience working with multiple reactive & aggressive dogs, however Happy Tails also highly recommends enlisting the support of your veternarian and/or a force-free canine behaviorist if needed.
